Hidden sources of Fish
Finned fish allergen. (Stop immediately if you have a known allergy.)
Where it hides
- Worcestershire sauce — traditionally made with anchovies, and it's a common hidden ingredient in marinades, burgers, and Bloody Marys
- Caesar dressing and Caesar-flavored snacks — anchovy paste is the traditional flavor base
- Fish sauce and curry pastes in Southeast Asian cooking — used as a foundational salty-umami ingredient, often unlisted on menus
- Fish or seafood stock in soups, risottos, and paella — used as a flavor base even in dishes that don't feature visible fish
- Fish oil and some multivitamin/omega-3 supplements — often blended into general supplements without prominent labeling
- Shared fryer oil at fish-and-chips or seafood restaurants — non-fish items cooked in the same oil pick up residue
